This Is...

A-mer-ican Idol!!

I watch a lot of TV. It's sad. I don't know how to stop. I will say this blog has stopped much (well, some) of my TV watching. But, I don't know what's worse - TV or computer?

Anyways...I love American Idol. I've been a fan since season 1 and Kelly Clarkson. And yes, I do like Kelly. But, my hands-down favorite...of course, Carrie Underwood.

These first weeks are NOT my favorite. Watching people make fools of themselves and then critiqued...SO sad. Now, of course there are many that are there just to make it on the screen - but, some of them are just plain horrific. Think they're good. But, they're not. And...the criticism - it's almost too much for me to take.

I like it when we get to the top 10...or even the top 20. That's when it gets good.

My mom - bless her heart - LOVES and I mean LOVES American Idol.

So much so that she:

a) Keeps score (on her own).
b) Takes notes.
c) Listens to every last word of Simon.
d) Votes repeatedly each and every week.
e) Actually DVR's it...and she doesn't care if she ever misses any other show.
f) Has the Chicken Soup for the American Idol book.

p.s. I do all of the above also...except for have the book...that was a gift. But...come on...who doesn't vote?

She's obsessed. You can't call her during the show. She doesn't make plans on Tuesday or Wednesday nights unless it's an emergency. She even likes to watch it LIVE - commercials and all. Who does that anymore? But, she insists on DVRing it every week...you never know.

There is something about reality shows - really talent, "dream-making" reality shows that pulls at my heartstrings. You can often find me tearing up and even blubbering at performances of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance (but that's a whole other post).

I wish I could sing - it would make everyone around me much happier. I love to sing...and I literally could not be any worse.

Oh well, I can blog - and that takes a bit of talent, too.

p.s. the cuties like American Idol, too...especially Brady!

  1. Dawn: I love American Idol but not the beginning part either. I wait until they cut the candidates down and then start watching. Yes, your mom is obsessed when it comes to Idol. She is one of their best fans.
